My Story

Hello, My name is Anne, I am a former dementia home carer, I was my beautiful mums 24/7 carer along with fantastic support from my husband, I put my career on hold and the journey began. Mum had heart failure that had then progressed to vascular dementia. We made many memories on the long and at times very challenging and difficult dementia journey, we were best friends as well as mother and daughter, we went holidays and days out in the early stages of her illness. My caring role was driven by love and determination to keep mum safe, happy and healthy throughout her illness. I managed to keep her cared for at home with me until her passing as was her wishes, this was with the support of the at home palliative hospice services in her final days, I am so pleased that I managed to keep this last promise to her.

Ive been a member of TIDE for the past 18mths, they are a very unique carers support charity as they support both current and former carers alike. They also give us carers a voice and a platform to share our knowledge, experience and journeys to work towards making changes in legislation to improve the journey for current and future carers, with more support and a lot more understanding of the difficulties involved in caring. Im very involved in various groups, committees and have also carried out presentations to pass on my experience and knowledge gained during my caring role.

I am raising awareness and funds for this wonderful charity by challenging myself to walk a marathon every week for 6 months. Every mile is approx 2000 steps, I will update my page often with information, a short blog and photos to keep everyone updated on my progress with how many miles I have completed according to my pedometer, I will begin this challenge on Monday the 4th April 2022 and will end it on Sunday 2nd October 2022.
